STEMNET UK

STEMNET is a programme that creates opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  It  helps encourage young people to be well informed about STEM, able to engage fully in debate, and make decisions about STEM related issues.

STEMNET coordinate activities to help enrich and enhance the STEM curriculum.  They support and advise schools.  Amongst other things, they run a Volunteer Ambassadors Programme enabling young people, teachers and schools to interact with thousands of people working in every imaginable area of STEM, free of charge.  At then end of 2009/10 there were 21,000 people registered as STEM ambassadors and during the year, they worked with half a million young people.

“STEMNET’s work has had a real impact on improving young people’s perceptions of, and engagement with, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  Weprovide young people with opportunities to develop vital personal  and employability skills, and help keep the UK competitive in an increasingly technological world.  We have a growing body of evidence, quantitative and qualitative, demonstrating positive outcomes for individuals, schools, employers and the individual STEM Ambassadors we work with, as well as the wider society”.
